My doctor told me with an active outbreak my kids could possibly catch it from the toilet seat. If they caught it I would be in my darkest of times. How likely is this. I heard hsv1 could live for weeks on surfaces. I'm now using the basement toilet but I fear it is to late. I am very concerned.

I believe it’s possible for the virus to survive on a toilet seat for a short time. When at home I wipe off the seat with alcohol. I lift up the toilet seat and squat when I’m at friends’ homes or in public places. I’m with you. I wouldn’t want to pass it on to others who follow after me.

I suggest you check for a second opinion because that to me sounds ridiculous.
